The Bugaboo Donkey Review – in more detail

The Bugaboo Donkey Review
The Bugaboo Donkey Review – My wife looking stylish as always.

The practical Ferrari of strollers. I know that practical and Ferrari don’t usually go in the same sentence but the description fits the bugaboo donkey. It’s sleek design combined with ease of use make it a must for any parent of twins. I have never used another twin stroller and after using this masterpiece of engineering, I don’t think I ever will. Okay, it is very expensive but it is worth the price. The bugaboo donkey holds its price and has big resale value.

We live in Berlin Germany and bought our second-hand Bugaboo Donkey on Ebay Kleinanzeigen. Initially, when Olivia told me that we were buying a buggy that was the same price as a decent second-hand car I nearly fainted. In hindsight, after using it for 8 months now, I can say that the product is practically perfect. It is so easy to use and feels so light to push.

Masterpiece of Dutch Design – Bugaboo Donkey Review

The first thing that stands out about the Bugaboo Donkey is how good it looks. The Dutch are renowned for their design and this is evident with this eye catching stroller. The Bugaboo is simple, innovative and functional. The ergonomically designed seats are interchangeable and are built to grow with your family. It just takes three clicks and the Bugaboo Donkey is transformed into a completely different looking stroller. This means you can use it for one kid, two kids of different ages, or twins.

The 3 Different settings – Bugaboo Donkey Review –

1.One Child

Bugaboo Donkey Mono – One Child

We have only used the mono option once. Our twins are pretty much inseparable and the mono setting has not got much use. We used it once and it was very practical. Olivia went shopping alone with Mathilda and had plenty of spaces for groceries in the side basket.

2.Two children of different ages

As we have twins we have not had to use this mode yet. Hopefully, we will then be able to use the bugaboo donkey duo function in the future. The bugaboo donkey stroller easily converts into a stroller for children of different ages.

This is the setting that we have used since day one. The Bugaboo Donkey is the perfect stroller for twins. We started off using the bassinet setting for the first 6 months and when the twins were old enough we easily took out the bassinets and replaced them with seats. I was amazed at how easy this process was. In just a few clicks we had changed the seating arrangement. The result was like having a new stroller.

It’s Built to Last – Bugaboo Donkey Review

The Bugaboo Donkey is built to last. If you plan on having kids more than once in your life then you should keep the bugaboo donkey, even after your children outgrow it. It is so sturdy and well designed that it will last for years and can be used by different generations. One of the reasons for the hefty price tag is the durable materials that are used. You can also do as my wife does and pimp the bugaboo with many accessories.

It is so Easy to use – Bugaboo Donkey Review

When I heard that the Bugaboo Donkey has inflatable wheels, I thought it was a bad idea. Having now used it on uneven surfaces I can say that it is a great feature. It rides so smoothly on any surface and this is down to the wheels. Whether pushing on grass, gravel or cobblestones the ride is still smooth for you and your baby. The shock absorption, 360º turning and one handed steering also makes light work of confined spaces.

My 3 favourite features – Bugaboo Donkey Review

1.The Adjustable handle bar– We regularly use the stroller on public transport and in tight spaces. The retractable handlebar is so helpful. In an instant, with two simple clicks, you can reduce the length of the handle and fit in just about anywhere.

2. 360º turning – Living in a big city like Berlin, usually, means dealing with big crowds. Trying to manoeuvre through crowds can be challenging with a double buggy. The Bugaboo Donkey makes turning 360º, even with one hand, very easy.

3.Easily Adjustable seats. Not only is it easy to change the seats, but you can also recline the seats pretty easily. When you are on the go and your baby falls asleep you can simply click the seat into a more reclined position. This simple feature will help your baby to sleep longer. A gift when you have twins.

2 Improvements that would make the stroller better – Bugaboo Donkey Review

While the bugaboo donkey stroller is almost perfect in every way, there are a few minor details that need adjustment. Maybe Bugaboo should hire me as the chief tester to make their product perfect.

  1. More Storage Space Underneath – Having twins means that every trip outside the house takes several hours of preparation. One of the most time-consuming parts is packing the bags. A full bag for twins barely fits in the storage section. If you go shopping then your extra bags will not fit along with the twins stuff in the storage section.
  2. Bulky when folded – The Bugaboo is a beast of a stroller. It takes up a lot of space even when folded. This makes storage difficult. In my opinion, there is a correlation between the easy handling and the bulkiness when folding. The sacrifice for such easy handling is that it takes up a lot of storage space when folded.

5 Accessories that will make your Bugaboo better – Bugaboo Donkey Review

If you are like my wife then you will love to upgrade the Bugaboo. Here are some are of the accessories that we have pimped our ride with:

1.Summer Canopies

Bugaboo Donkey Review – Summer Canopy

The Bugaboo comes with standard canopies. They are nicely designed and come in an array of colours. The only problem is that in summer when it gets hot, the original canopies get too warm. We bought these summer canopies that give the children more air.

2.Insect Nets

If you live near a body of water then it is likely that there will be a lot of insects that come out at dusk. These insect nets will help your babies to avoid irritating insect bites.

These were one of the best accessories that we bought for the Bugaboo that was not an official Bugaboo product. Our twins love the little mobiles that keep them entertained during every journey. Click here to learn more about them

4.Seat Cushions –

When your baby upgrades to a seat then you should buy seat cushions. While the seats are not too hard they are not the most comfortable for long periods. The seat covers offer padding for your babies back. The cushioned surface will help your baby to be snug and hopefully sleep.

5.A Good lock and chain –

A lock and cable is a smart purchase that will protect your expensive investment. The Bugaboo Donkey is a target for thieves. To make it as difficult as possible to steal you should buy a good U Lock and chain.

Conclusion – Bugaboo Donkey Review

I have used other cheap single strollers while travelling and they were terrible in comparison to the Bugaboo Donkey Stroller. The Bugaboo Donkey is the most expensive but also the best product that we have bought for our twins. There is a saying in German “Wer billig kauft, zahlt doppelt” – “Those that buy cheap, pay twice”. When you buy the Bugaboo you are buying quality and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
