Can Acupuncture help with infertility? – Acupuncture IVF
First of all, the most important question is, Did Acupuncture help me to have successful IVF treatment? The honest answer is, I don’t know. For our first two IVF treatments, we did not do acupuncture and they failed. Before our third IVF treatment, we read a lot about acupuncture and IVF. We were both very sceptical before the treatment but we wanted to exhaust every avenue to make the IVF treatment work. We decided to give it a try. Acupuncture combined with the other changes to our lives could have been the reason for our successful IVF treatment.

Acupuncture and IVF
There is nothing natural about IVF treatment so it is not harmful to complement the treatment with acupuncture. I could not find really solid scientific evidence on how it improved fertility, but there seemed to be enough discussion around the topic for us to try it. After the first two failed IVF treatments, we decided that it was time to try everything in our power to make our final treatment a success. We visited three different acupuncturists across Berlin. The first two seemed money hungry and we did not feel comfortable in their clinics. We had learned from our IVF treatments that being comfortable with your clinic and doctor is really important. This is also the case for acupuncturists.
We got a recommendation for a clinic that was near my office. The practice was run by a doctor that specialised in a combination of Western medicine, homoeopathy and acupuncture. The clinic was nice and the doctor was amazing. She was middle-aged women that had dealt with infertility herself and combined Western and Chinese medicine. In the lead up to our third and final try, we went to acupuncture, once per week, every week, for 10 weeks.
In the end, it is hard to say if acupuncture and fertility are linked. Chinese culture says that is while Western medicine is more sceptical about the benefits. After our two failed IVF treatments we were willing to try anything to have a family. If acupuncture could help us then we were happy to try it. Acupuncture is helpful for managing stress. IVF is a very stressful situation. That alone was enough for us to try it out through such difficult times. I cannot guarantee that acupuncture helped us have successful IVF treatment, but it is one of the things I changed before our final treatment.
